NatureStructure Curator's Tour

16 June 12:00pm - 1:30pm
Venue: BSA Space, BSA Space
290 Congress St.
Boston
02210

Curator Scott Burnham leads a tour of NatureStructure, a global overview showcasing dozens of architectural and design projects that work in harmony with nature to heal and restore ecosystems and make cities more resilient and sustainable

From the  “Sand Engine”, a system that uses the tide to distribute sand along the Netherland’s urbanized coastline to reverse erosion to a “bee highway” in Norway that feeds and nurtures endangered pollinators as they migrate across built-up areas to “Culture Urbaine”, a bridge in Geneva that uses algae to consume the CO2 of passing cars and transform it into nutrient-rich food source; NatureStructure presents a new model for urban systems, showing how reconnecting the city to nature and natural process is essential for a resilient, sustainable, and livable urban future.

“A different relationship between built and natural environments is needed for a healthy and sustainable future. The Norwegians have a phrase for it: “Spille på lag med naturen.”—“To play on the same team as nature.”—Scott Burnham, Curator.

After the tour, there will be time for a Q&A session.

NatureStructure is on view at BSA Space through September 23, 2018. Free and open to the public.
