Welcome to the London Architecture Diary, your essential guide to architecture exhibitions and events taking place across the city, brought to you by New London Architecture.
See the finalists of the Royal Academy Dorfman Award - architects from Colombia, Ethiopia, Iran, Japan and the Netherlands - present their work in front of our esteemed judging panel and be the first to hear who has won the new prize.
In this special afternoon event, the finalists of the Royal Academy Dorfman Award will present their work and practices to our judges, including architects Louisa Hutton RA and Richard Rogers RA, Dean of Harvard Graduate School of Design Mohsen Mostafavi, BBC broadcaster Razia Iqbal, artist Conrad Shawcross RA and critic and curator Joseph Grima.
From a collective encouraging community building in Bogotá to a woman architect mentoring the next generation in Ethiopia, the shortlist displays the different nature of architecture being produced around the world. It will bring to the fore unusual and highly sophisticated work that ranges from the social to the political and the very architectural to the technical.
The shortlisted architects are:
• Anne Holtrop, Founder, Studio Anne Holtrop (The Netherlands and Bahrain)
• Rahel Shawl, Founder, RAAS Architects (Ethiopia)
• Arquitectura Expandida (Colombia)
• Alireza Taghaboni, Founder, nextoffice (Iran)
• Go Hasegawa, Founder, Go Hasegawa and Associates (Japan)
The live judging will be followed by a panel discussion with academics, architects and cultural commentators examining architecture in a global context.
The day will conclude with the announcement of the winner of the Royal Academy Dorfman Award and the presentation of the £10,000 prize.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception in the Royal Academy’s Collections Gallery.
