Welcome to the London Architecture Diary, your essential guide to architecture exhibitions and events taking place across the city, brought to you by New London Architecture.
Sto Werkstatt is proud to present "Humanitarian Architecture, Designing for Global Extremes" a lecture by Article 25
For this sixth edition of ‘A Material Approach Series’ Bea Sennewald, Director of Projects at Article 25 will present the recently completed project 'Operation Smile Center' -a clinic for treating children with cleft lip in Oujda, Morocco.
From early feasibility studies to on-the-ground training, this lecture will explore in-depth the key challenges and practical solutions Article 25 developed for designing and building this healthcare facility in a region in North Africa that presents highly specific climatic, social and cultural demands.
This evening lecture also marks the launch of our new Office Program of CPDs & Mini Lectures including the new mini-lecture 'Sustainable Building in Hot Arid Climates' which takes as a case study the 'Operation Smile Center' by Article 25.
Article 25 is a London based humanitarian architecture charity whose community-centered design approach aims to catalyse positive social change, through a greater sense of ownership; involvement in design and construction; and developing disaster resistant buildings. Sto are proud sponsors of Operation Smile Center and worked as part of an international team to deliver the clinic in Oujda.
A Material Approach is series by Sto Werkstatt which spotlights the relationships between architects and materials. Each edition offers a fascinating insight into the mind of an architect and their creative process – how decisions are made around the specification of materials and how architecture informs and is informed by particular qualities of materials. Sto Werkstatt is an architects’ testing ground for a wide variety of building products and surfaces and the Sto team offer technical and creative support for architectural projects all around the world.
