Welcome to the London Architecture Diary, your essential guide to architecture exhibitions and events taking place across the city, brought to you by New London Architecture.
Welcome to Edible Avenue SW8.
Inspired by New Covent Garden Market's bounty of fresh produce, a once grey and congested thoroughfare will be turned into an interactive streetscape. Traditional white picket fences will emerge from the neigbhouring market's boundary wall, playfully folding and curving to form welcoming community seating and space to linger. The installation will morph into a series of planting areas with fruit bushes, trailing plants, edible flowers and herbs planted throughout, creating a new meeting place for the whole community. By using food growing as a tool to connect people, our aspiration is for Thessaly Road to become a community of growers, empowered and enabled through growing workshops and a range of horticultural activities over the coming months to support the creation of a better environment.
Planting activities for all ages 2-4pm on Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th.
Come along, meet your neighbours, pick up a gardening tip or two, sign up to our gardening club and help us plant up our edibles. The Edible Bus Stop working with New Covent Garden Market and its development partners VINCI St Modwen aspire to create a welcoming, inclusive neighbourhood street which facilitates community wellbeing, encourages play and provides a backdrop for new conversations between new neighbours.
