Measure Draw Build: An Exhibition by George Saumarez Smith

25 October - 26 November
Venue: RIBA
Royal Institute of British Architects
66 Portland Place

Centred around drawing as essential to the making of architecture, this is an exhibition about design process. The work of George Saumarez Smith, a Director of ADAM Architecture and a leading classicist, emerges out of three activities: he measures, he draws and he builds.

‘Measure’ is represented by Saumarez Smith’s sketchbooks of meticulous measured drawings that he has been keeping for over 20 years.

‘Draw’ covers large framed presentation drawings of architectural projects in a variety of media.

‘Build’ completes the exhibition with a series of photographs of built work.

The exhibition hopes to provoke wider debate about the place of classicism in the modern world, as well as being a celebration of drawing and traditional craft.
