Native Architecture

06 April 1:00am - 4:00pm
Organized by: ArchForKids & Smithsonian Nat'l Museum of the American Indian
Venue: National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Instutite
1 Bowling Green
New York NY

Families will investigate indigenous structures: iglus, longhouses, pueblo adobe housing – and more.  They will learn how they were adapted to their climates and geographies and made from native and sustainable materials. Next, we’ll study several works of contemporary architecture inspired by native forms, structures and beliefs. The challenge will be to design your own work of modern structure that draws from indigenous architecture. Recommended for ages 5 and above. Drop in format.
