Welcome to the New York Architecture Diary, your essential guide to architecture exhibitions and events taking place across the city.
Swedish Design Moves New York
In association with Archtober 2017, Sweden presents a thematic program investigating different takes on Democratic Architecture.
Democratic urban space ensures the well-being of everyone, from children to the elderly. Sweden’s egalitarian society and intimate relation to nature generate balanced architectural solutions that accommodate both community desires and environmental needs.
The program – spanning several days at the Center for Architecture and Van Alen Institute from October 24 to 28 – will present and explore Swedish architecture and design solutions, with installations, conversations and charrettes addressing global contemporary challenges of architecture and urbanity.
Among the topics to be examined:
How can we collaborate internationally to find creative solutions for a sustainable and democratic built environment?
How can design thinking be applied globally to create democratic urban spaces?
How can Swedish and American democratic processes inspire architects and urban planners in New York and around the world?
We invite you all to visit and participate during Archtober, on October 23-28.
