HELLO

New Local / Living

27 October 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Venue: A/D/O
29 Norman Avenue
Brooklyn
11222

New Local is a three-part series of half-day workshops and participatory talks centered on an examination of locality and its conditions organised by AIANY’s New Practices Committee in collaboration with A/D/O, Arup, and Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator. The sessions bring together leaders from a variety of industries, from architects, developers and planners to policy makers, sociologists, and anthropologists, who will discuss new forms of public space, and modes of living and manufacturing in New York City.

New Local / Living will be second event in the series focusing on living.

During this workshop, we will try to answer the following questions: can sharing platforms help resolve urgent social housing issues? Are there new ways of looking at existing social housing stock and left-over spaces in a more efficient way? Can we create new housing typologies to respond to new social contracts developing in urban cores? How can we better share the resources of our cities to create a diverse and equitable future?

Join us for a half-day of workshops and participatory talks to examine what it means to live in cities today and what typologies of housing are needed to support new needs, and how we define "neighborhood" today.
